You Can Live and Work Remotely From a French Castle! — Andy Sto

Founder of Chateau Coliving Katia Dimova, has been a digital nomad for more than 10 years. She always felt that traveling and working remotely as a digital nomad can get a bit lonely, and when she tried co-living for the 1 sttime, she saw that it didn’t have to be this way.

Katia and her partner had a Chateau in Normandy that was functioning a bed and breakfast, and they decided that they will turn it into a co-living space. They wanted to bring digital nomads together to work, connect and have fun in the scenic 12th-century castle.

The castle attracts all types of remote workers, individuals, families and this October it will be open for one month per year for corporate retreats. “We just posted a photo on Instagram with our youngest co-liver, 18 months old, and the oldest one who is 70+” Katia added. The values that Chateau Coliving is based on are openness and acceptance, without expectations, pretensions or judgement.

The castle can hold as many as 30 people, it has 2 separate buildings so that families or visitors with pets can be accommodated comfortably. Most residents are in their late 20s to mid-thirties and they stay on average for 4–6 weeks.

Katia explained that they organize a lot of events and activities; some are standard like yoga, workouts, traditional French Crepe-making, movie and game nights. While other events are on-demand like wine tasting, oyster farm visits, murder mystery parties and escape nights. The ambiance of the castle and the big space allow for many activities.

It’s also important to interact with the local community, that’s why Katia and her team invite locals to their events and organize special activities with local restaurant owners, wine experts and businesses.

She added that her favorite thing was seeing so many long-term friendships and business collaborations forged on the property.
